Council of Ephesus, Cyril of Alexandria: Anathema XII
Selected letters, decrees and canons, including Cyril’s anathemas with reception notes; not the full proceedings
Cyril of Alexandria: Anathema XII
Whosoever shall not recognize that the Word of God suffered in the flesh, that he was crucified in the flesh, and that likewise in that same flesh he tasted death and that he is become the first-begotten of the dead, for, as he is God, he is the life and it is he that giveth life: let him be anathema.
Edition and transmission
Cyril of Alexandria authored this text. The source editor discusses uncertainty about its formal approval at Ephesus and its subsequent conciliar reception. It is preserved as received doctrinal material, not as an undisputed text newly authored by the council.
